We support occupational health and safety as a fundamental right for workers

The ALDI SOUTH Group and 34 companies have endorsed the Ethical Trade Initiative (ETI) in their call to incorporate occupational health and safety into the fundamental principles and rights at work of the International Labour Organisation (ILO). These rights form the basis of the labour protection supply chain workers deserve.

We are committed to supporting and improving the conditions for workers in our global supply chains and we recognize that safe and healthy work for all workers is part of how we respect their human rights. The Covid-19 Pandemic has accelerated the need to protect workers’ health and safety, but occupational health and safety (OSH) has yet to become a fundamental right in the world of work.

As an ETI member, ALDI has signed the open letter from the ETI to governments; the International Organisation of Employers (IOE) and the International Labour Organisation (ILO). The letter urges the implementation of a global occupational health and safety (OHS) roadmap that makes safe and healthy workplaces part of the Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work, i.e. a core labour standard.

ALDI believes that it is reasonable to expect to work in a safe environment, not to risk the health or safety as part of one’s work. This should be the same for all workers everywhere.
