ALDI GB/IE signs UN Women’s Empowerment Principles
By signing the UN Women’s Empowerment Principles ALDI GB/IE has sent out an important signal showing its commitment to promote gender equality and women’s empowerment.
Created by the UN Global Compact and UN Women, the Women’s Empowerment Principles are shaped by international labour and human rights standards. Its principles provide guidance to private sector organisations in promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment. The Women’s Empowerment Principles link to our position that all businesses have a responsibility for gender equality and women’s empowerment and for addressing any form of discrimination.
Adopting the Principles is part of our continuous journey towards upholding all human rights, women and men at work should be treated fairly and without discrimination. By engaging internal and external stakeholders and by building on industry-specific practices and lessons learned we aim to foster business practices that empower women. This will be reflected in our new gender policy which we are currently developing for all our supply chains, and which will be published later this year.
This step is related to the ALDI SOUTH Group’s existing membership in the Women’s Empowerment Principles activator programme, where we are working to close the gender gap in the private sector.
