ALDI U.S. furthers commitment to sustainably sourced seafood and joins the Ocean Disclosure Project

In 2012, ALDI U.S. published its Seafood Buying Policy that articulated its commitment to sustainable seafood. Today, ALDI U.S. is proud that 100% of its seafood products now meet its criteria for being responsibly sourced. In continuation of this commitment, ALDI U.S. is pleased to announce it has joined the Ocean Disclosure Project (ODP) to voluntarily disclose information around its seafood supply chain practices.

Established in 2015 by the Sustainable Fisheries Partnership, the ODP is a global platform and reporting framework dedicated to increasing transparency in global seafood supply chains by encouraging companies to publicly disclose their wild-caught seafood sources.

By joining this initiative, ALDI U.S. has agreed to share information on its seafood supply chain practices through a public profile on the ODP website. The profile includes a list of all of fisheries supplying wild-caught seafood sourced by ALDI U.S., along with information on fishery management, catch method and environmental impact.

The ODP supports the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). More specifically, SDG 14: Life Below Water, which aims to conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources. This initiative is in line with the commitment made by ALDI SOUTH to further sustainability across its supply chain, while continuing to meet the demands of consumers. ALDI U.S. cares about the communities it serves and continues to actively work toward ensuring accessibility to high-quality foods at affordable prices. By annually assessing how it sources seafood, ALDI U.S. will be able to do just that as it continues to experience growth across the United States.

“We’re proud to join the Ocean Disclosure Project and share our commitment to sustainably sourced seafood,” said Joan Kavanaugh, Vice President of Corporate Buying at ALDI U.S. “We know our shoppers care about the origins of their food, and we’ll continue to follow and implement responsible practices to ensure customers can shop at ALDI with confidence.”

ALDI U.S. lives its values, and this is just one way the company demonstrates how committed it is to its customers, partners and the environment seriously. The company’s partnership with ODP joins the many other commitments ALDI SOUTH has made in support of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Together, these commitments contribute to a better, more sustainable tomorrow.
