Continuing our commitment to sustainable fish and seafood by supporting robust fisheries control and joining a Committee of GLOBALG.A.P.

As a responsible retailer with a global presence, we are always working to improve the sustainability of our fish and seafood products. In May 2020, the ALDI SOUTH Group - together with more than 50 retailers, brands and NGOs - signed a letter by the Sustainable Fisheries Partnership (SFP) that emphasises the importance of fisheries observers and electronic monitoring of all fleets/vessels fishing for tuna. Additionally, we have joined the Aquaculture Technical Committee of the certification scheme GLOBALG.A.P.

Letter by the Sustainable Fisheries Partnership (SFP)

Founded in 2006, the Sustainable Fisheries Partnership (SFP) is a non-profit organization dedicated to rebuilding depleted fish stocks and reducing the environmental and social impacts of fishing and fish farming by engaging fishery stakeholders and seafood businesses in every part of the supply chain.

By signing the SFP letter, we clarified our position that it is important to ensure that sustainable fishing practices continue to be used and that appropriate information to support management of the fisheries continues to be collected, in a safe and transparent manner. Aquaculture Technical Committee of the certification scheme GLOBALG.A.P

Credible certification schemes like GLOBALG.A.P. are important tools to drive improvements and bolster our consumers’ trust. GLOBALG.A.P. sets standards for good agricultural and aquaculture practices (G.A.P.) and in May 2020, we followed the invitation to join the Aquaculture Technical Committee, which will enable us to promote improvements through a well-established dialogue with all relevant industry stakeholders.

"We appreciate the ALDI SOUTH GROUP’s participation in our Aquaculture Technical Committee. This type of involvement demonstrates the retailer’s commitment to food safety and to moving the industry towards more sustainability. Thank you in the name of the entire sector."
- Dr. Kristian Moeller, GLOBALG.A.P. CEO.
