Mitigating modern slavery: ALDI Australia and ALDI UK/IE publish annual Modern Slavery Statements

Human trafficking, forced labour and the exploitation of vulnerable workers are abuses of basic human rights that have no place in our business or supply chain. Preventing these abuses from happening is a global issue for ALDI. Each annual Modern Slavery Statement explains the steps ALDI Australia and UK/IE are taking to prevent and address modern slavery in their business and supply chains.

ALDI Australia

ALDI Australia has published its annual Modern Slavery Statement outlining actions to mitigate modern slavery during a challenging year for the supply chain due to the COVID-19 pandemic. ALDI has become the first Australian member of Slave-Free Alliance and together the organisations will conduct a Human Rights Risk Assessment and roll out Modern Slavery Awareness Training for ALDI employees and business partners.

“Modern slavery is a complex issue requiring thorough and progressive action. We understand the significant impact we can have on intercepting the exploitation of workers within our supply chain and our partnership with Slave-Free Alliance will help to ensure modern slavery continues to be identified and addressed.”

Daniel Baker, Corporate Responsibility Director at ALDI Australia

ALDI UK/IE

The Modern Slavery Statement explains the steps taken by ALDI UK/IE during 2020 to prevent modern slavery in its business and supply chain. ALDI UK won the Thomson Reuters Foundation Stop Slavery Enterprise Award in the goods and services category for the efforts in tackling modern slavery and taking positive steps to protect human rights in the supply chain.

“We recognise that modern slavery is still a reality in global supply chains and we will continue working with other retailers, suppliers, NGOs, governments and industry partners to tackle this pervasive issue. Modern slavery has no place in our business or supply chains and we remain fully committed to stamping it out wherever we discover it.”

Giles Hurley, Chief Executive at ALDI UK and Ireland
