ALDI partners with amfori and the United Nations to support gender equality

The ALDI SOUTH Group and ALDI Nord Group of companies have joined UN Women, amfori and other leading companies from across Europe to increase their positive impact on gender diversity and inclusion. This is through the Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs) Activator programme. The programme will contribute to closing the gender gap in the private sector while building business value. Its aim is to secure business leadership buy-in for gender equality as a foundation for companies and their global supply chains.

The president of amfori, Christian Ewert, is proud to be collaborating with member companies to make progress on women empowerment globally:

“We are proud to be leading the WEPs Activator with our members and partners at UN Women. This programme gives members the tools to advance Gender Equality at global scale. The COVID-19 pandemic is aggravating economic inequalities faced by women, which makes ‘Enterprise for Equal’, amfori’s Gender Equality Strategy 2020-2022, more important than ever.

Similarly, Katja Freiwald Katja Freiwald, Regional Programme Manager at UN Women sees the power of mobilising a range of member companies to bring about change at scale:

“Through the UN Women WEPs Activator, we will mobilise companies of all sizes – retailers, importers, brands and associations – to deliver a legacy of positive change, knowing the benefits of women’s full and equal economic participation are for everyone.”

ALDI believes that all workers should be treated fairly. We do not tolerate any form of discrimination and commit to achieve gender equality across our own business and supply chains. Through this programme we will benefit from access to training tools and services, the development of corresponding gender action plans, as well as tailored one-to-one support to implement them.

“ALDI Nord and ALDI SOUTH are participating in the WEPs Activator to promote gender equality along our supply chains and throughout our company. We want to make our contribution to a more equal world and build greater awareness on this issue.”

Erik Hollmann, Director CR/QA International, ALDI Nord
