ALDI SOUTH and ALDI Nord are seen as leaders for their cotton performance in the 2020 “Material Change Index”

The ALDI SOUTH Group and ALDI Nord Group have achieved great rankings in “Textile Exchange’s Material Change Index (MCI)”. Participating companies are scored on how they manage and integrate a fibre and materials strategy into their business. ALDI SOUTH and ALDI Nord are highlighted as the fourth largest retailers regarding the use of organic and the fifth biggest for the use of recycled cotton by volume.

ALDI has improved its overall cotton performance in the Index from „maturing“ status in 2019, to „leading“ in 2020, this shows that we are at the forefront of transforming the industry. ALDI scored 75.5 out of 100 possible points, and in the “Top 10 by volume”, successfully maintaining its fourth placed ranking for the use of organic cotton and the fifth place for the use of recycled cotton. But we know that this benchmark is more than just cotton and we are pleased to be included in the "Top 10 by Volume Preferred Down" and were ranked ninth.

“By participating in the Textile Exchange’s Material Change Index, we want to demonstrate our transparency and commitment to more sustainable materials sourcing. It also allows us to identify those areas where we still need to improve.”
Katharina Wortmann, Director Corporate Responsibility International, ALDI SOUTH Group

ALDI is committed to sustainable buying practices and wants to increase the share of sustainable products available for customers. The benchmark clearly demonstrates that we are on the right track of implementing our International CR Strategy.
