ALDI in Germany commits to the European Chicken Commitment for higher animal welfare

ALDI SOUTH and ALDI Nord in Germany have taken a major step to further improve animal welfare. ALDI Germany is the first large food retailer in Germany to support the European Chicken Commitment. This will significantly improve the husbandry conditions for broilers.

The European Chicken Commitment is a voluntary commitment for higher animal welfare and sets out strict requirements for chickens kept for meat production. In Europe and North America, around 350 companies have so far joined the broiler chicken initiative.

ALDI in Germany will work with partners and suppliers to implement the standards of the initiative and take the necessary steps to achieve them. Initially, the focus is on the complete conversion of all private label products of the entire chicken fresh meat range as well as the frozen chicken products by 2026.

"With our commitment to the European Chicken Commitment we are sending a clear signal to the market. We look forward to other market participants from the retail and catering sectors following our example in order to achieve more animal welfare across the board. Only if everyone joins can we succeed in this task."
