Respecting human rights in our supply chains: ALDI's Child Labour Policy
On 20 November 2019, the ALDI SOUTH Group has published its 'Child Labour Policy'. The policy explains how the ALDI SOUTH Group will contribute to preventing, identifying and remediating child labour in our supply chains. The policy is realised on the 30th anniversary of the 'UN Convention on the Rights of the Child' and the 60th anniversary of the 'UN Declaration on the Rights of the Child'.
In 1989, the UN adopted the 'Convention on the Rights of the Child'. Over the years many efforts have been made in order to transform this vision into reality. However, there is still a lot to be done to fulfil the realisation of children’s rights globally.
As an international company with global and complex supply chains, ALDI is aware of the risk of child labour. We are committed to contributing to the prevention, identification and remediation of child labour in all areas of our operations, including our supply chains. We do not tolerate children being exposed to any risks in productions sites used for our products.
Our newly published 'Child Labour Policy' explains our understanding of child labour in accordance with international standards. The policy states ALDI’s expectations of our business partners to ensure that child labour does not occur at production sites used for our products. Last but not least, it describes the process of what ALDI, together with local expert organisations and our business partners, will do, if a child is found at a production site.
ALDI is committed to finding solutions for preventing and addressing the issue of child labour. We will develop detailed guidelines and training for business partners and continue to engage in multi-stakeholder initiatives, carry out child rights risk and impact assessments and run additional projects to further respect and promote children’s rights.
